Baton Rouge leads in worker productivity growth

Associated Press - July 25, 2008 5:14 AM ET

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The growth of worker productivity in the Baton Rouge region is the highest in the nation.

That's according to a study by the Brookings Institution research group.

The think tank covered five years leading up to Hurricane Katrina. Brookings examined gross domestic product in the 100 largest metro areas and compared that with the number of jobs in each area.

Baton Rouge had an annual growth rate of just over 5% in GDP per job. The nation as a whole had a rate of just under 2.3%.

Trailing Baton Rouge in second and third place were San Jose, California, and Sarasota, Florida.

1) Cool - something that Louisiana ranks #1 in, and it’s a GOOD thing

You're a statistical outlier who screws up the whole average. If you moved to Lafayette or Biloxi, suddenly they would be in the top five in productivity growth.

That is truly awesome for Baton Rouge. I hope it continues and mushrooms throughout the state.

I got a call from the Brookings Institute on this one. The study covered overall usage of Solitaire on company computers.

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom."

-- Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV)

This why I strive to be the BEST solitare player I can be. 8-)
