The World NEXT ends

This is an interesting finding, and may apply directly to IT folks. Be careful, use it too much and you may develop an insatiable appetite for "Twilight" books.

A nasal spray can make men more in tune with other people's feelings, say a team of German and UK researchers.

They found that inhaling the "cuddle hormone" oxytocin made men just as empathetic as women.

The study in 48 volunteers also showed that the spray boosted the ability to learn from positive feedback.

Writing in the Journal of Neuroscience, the researchers said the spray may be useful for boosting behaviour therapy in conditions such as schizophrenia.

Oxytocin is a naturally produced hormone, most well-known for triggering labour pains and promoting bonding between mother and baby.

"This study is the latest of several that suggest that intranasal oxytocin seems to 'sensitise' people to become more aware of social cues from other individuals "

1) Interesting. A nasal spray that helps ’sensitise’ people to become more aware of social cues from other individuals

Oxytocin is what my wife calls the "male listening" hormone.

It makes males more sensitive and attentive as a partner and therefore increases our chance of having sex. After a few weeks or months it wears off and we males revert to our normal selfish selves which allows us to cut off from listening to our partner and increases or enjoyment of live sport telecasts again.

In females, among other things, oxytocin distorts a woman's perception of their male partner's behaviour, which makes is more attractive to our partner and they are more forgiving of us. However, after the oxytocin wears off other factors kick-in between the sexes and the oxytocin is not needed so much, and also too much oxytocin over an extended period can cause memory loss and increases your chances of a heart attack. If it wasn't for these few negative side effects, women would be crop-dusting the suburbs to keep us males in check.
