The World NEXT ends

I couldn't believe it when I heard the following yesterday:

Obama says Jerusalem 'will be capital of Israel'

US presidential candidate Barack Obama reaffirmed on Wednesday his position that Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel.

"I continue to say that Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel. I have said it before and will say it again... but I've also said that it is a final status issue" that must be decided by negotiation, he said in the southern Israeli town of Sderot.

The international community, including the United States, does not recognize Israel's claim that Jerusalem is its "eternal, undivided capital."

How, exactly, does this help? It's not decided by negotiation if it's defined from the outset. Am I missing something?
