The World NEXT ends

The BB9000 was very nice and lasted me two years, but I'm very happy to be back to a touchscreen - and one large enough for my pathetic eyes!

My AT&T contract ended in June, and the family's Sprint one ended in December, which gave us the opportunity to jump in together.
In the three weeks I've had the Droid X, I've just 2.5GBs of data, and it's been just great. GPS works nicely (something the BB was flaky on). The bluetooth works far, Far, FAR better with my car - I can BT my podcasts, music, and Pandora every time without wanting to put my smartphone in a grinder. The large 4.3" screen is perfect, and it fits in my pocket nicely, no case needed.

BES-integration is (by far) the best thing about a Blackberry. Traveler's great (esp. for a 1.0 version on Android), so I won't discuss some of the minor annoyances I've run across here. One thing I DO  miss from my BB and previous Treos is the ability to sync my Notes Journal. I'm thinking of going to EverNote or SpringPad for this function, but I really wish that Journal sync would just get added to Traveler.

After enjoying the nice, slim size of the phone, it's all about apps. Here's a partial list of free ones I've found useful so far:

slingplayer (go buy a coax slingbox off ebay for $40 or less)
androidVNC
Chrome to Phone
Goggle Latitude
Google Earth
Google Maps
Google Sky Map (just nifty, not particularly useful)
EverNote/SpringPad (see above, I'd prefer NOT to use these!)
doubleTwist (Android & PC versions - sync's my iTunes podcasts nicely, and wire-full free, wireless paid)
Gowalla
NPR News
Pandora
ShopSavvy
PSX4Droid (guiltily admitting a Spyro addiction)
QuickProfiles (Free must have for BB converts used to having notification profiles!)
TeslaLED - good flashlight app to use your camera LED
Traveler
Unblock Me Free
WDW Lines
Walgreens
WWLTV
GoWAFB
Weatherbug

My phone journey continues!

I was never a big user of the Notes journal, as I preferred to have a personal doclib instead. I've been using EverNote for a while now, though, and have been toying with the idea of using their API to sync Notes databases.

I used doubleTwist for a while, but I've switched to iSyncr.

@1 Thanks, I'll have to take a look at iSyncr. I saw it, but didn't have any real feeling as to how well it works, so I was sticking with the free stuff to begin with. But I can probably scrounge up $3.00 to test it. ;-)
